Already tried the supermarket stuff?
Most people ring us after the drain cleaner, the plunger and the bent coat hanger have all had a go. That is usually a sign the blockage is further down the line than anything you can reach from the plughole.
Shop-bought drain cleaners are also hard on older pipework, and a lot of North Shore homes still have the original pipes. If the water is still sitting there after a second attempt, stop pouring things down it and give us a call. It is a cheaper fix before it backs up into the rest of the house.

Clearing a blackage is the easy part. The question worth answering is why it blocked in the first place.
A kitchen sink that blocks every few months is usually fat and food waste building up on a rough section of pipe. A toilet that keeps backing up can be a collapsed line, a bad fall on the pipework, or tree roots finding a cracked joint. Auckland clay soil and mature trees are a common combination on the North Shore, and roots will find any weak point in an older drain.
We tell you which one you are dealing with, and we tell you straight. If it is a one-off, you will hear that too. No one here is going to talk you into a repair you do not need.
How the job runs
1. You call or send the form. Tell us what is blocked and what you have already tried.
2. We give you a time and we turn up. Not a four hour window and a maybe.
3. We clear it and check it. Water goes away properly before we pack up.
4. We leave it tidy. Drain work is messy. Cleaning up afterwards is part of the job, not a favour.
5. You get told what we found. If there is a bigger problem underneath, you get the honest version and a price to fix it properly.
FAQ
Q: My sink is draining slowly but it is not fully blocked. Can it wait?
A: It can, but it usually gets worse rather than better. A slow drain means the pipe is already partly restricted, and the narrower it gets the faster the rest builds up. Clearing it early is cheaper and less disruptive than dealing with an overflow later
Q: Will drain cleaner from the supermarket damage my pipes?
A: It can, particularly in older homes. Caustic cleaners generate heat and can soften or distort plastic waste pipes, and they rarely reach a blockage that sits further down the line. If one application has not worked, a second one is unlikely to, and you are better off getting it looked at.
Q: Why does my toilet gurgle when the washing machine drains?
A: That is usually a venting problem or a partial blockage in a shared line. Air is being pulled through the toilet trap because it cannot get in where it should. It is worth investigating, because it often shows up before a full blockage does.
Q: Do I need to be home while you clear it?
A: Not always. If we can get to the fixture and the outside gully we can often do the job while you are at work, as long as we can reach you to talk through anything we find. We will confirm what we need when you book.
Q: What if the blockage turns out to be a broken pipe?
A: We tell you before we do anything else. You will get an explanation of what we found and a price to repair it, and you are free to think about it or get another quote. Clearing the blockage and quietly ignoring the cause is not how we work.
