What a running toilet is telling you
A toilet that refills by itself, hisses, or runs on after the flush is wasting water around the clock. It is almost always the inlet valve or the flush valve seal inside the cistern, and both are quick repairs.
A leak at the base of the pan is different. That is the pan seal or the connector, and water under the floor is the sort of problem that gets expensive if it is left.
Repair or replace?
If the suite is sound, we repair the internals and it is good for years. If it is cracked, badly stained, a water-hungry old model or you are refreshing the bathroom, a new suite is often better value than chasing repairs.
Most modern suites retrofit straight onto the existing plumbing, so there is no need to repair or alter the walls: the old toilet comes out, the new one goes in, and it looks brand new.

A toilet is only as good as the seal under it. We set the pan level, seal it correctly, connect the water with an isolation valve, and test it through several flushes before we leave. You get a toilet that stays put and stays dry.
