Most of Albany is young by North Shore standards. It was farmland until the 1950s, land the Crown bought for housing in 1963 sat idle for two decades, and most of the suburb you see today was built from the late 1980s on, with estates like Pinehill sold in stages through the 1990s and 2000s.
