Glenfield's character comes from the large 1960s subdivisions built after the Harbour Bridge opened: solid weatherboard and brick homes, with Marlborough in the south-east developed through the 1960s and early 1970s and the western side built later.
Glenfield was one of the last parts of the North Shore to be connected to the sewer network. Some streets had piped water in the 1960s but drainage only in the 1970s, so homes of that age can still have their original drain lines. Watercare finished the Kahika wastewater pipeline in 2024, replacing a 50-year-old pipe between the Kahika pump station and Easton Park Parade as part of works for growth in Beach Haven and Glenfield.
