Plumbing for Browns Bay homes
Browns Bay started as a holiday spot. The Brown family subdivided their farm in 1916, most sections went to holiday baches, and baches were still being built into the 1950s. After the Harbour Bridge opened, 1960s homes in brick, concrete and concrete block went up along the ridges and gullies, followed by infill and coastal redevelopment.
Piped water reached the East Coast Bays from the late 1950s, and Browns Bay was first connected to the sewer in the mid-1960s. Homes from that first connection can still have their original drain lines, so if a drain keeps blocking it is worth finding out what state the line is in rather than clearing it again and again.
Watercare is upgrading the Browns Bay wastewater pump station and part of the rising main near the beach end of Browns Bay Road, following larger sewers laid under the beachfront reserve in 2005 to cut wet-weather overflows onto the beach. The pipes on your own property are generally yours, and those are the ones we fix.
